While hiking in the Florida swamps at Big Cypress this image was taken. It depicts the wetlands in a nature preserve along the Florida trail. The picture was taken at noon while hiking, during a two day hike. It captures the essence of a common scene in South Florida. It is a Florida cypress swamp image. The cypress tress were covered with blooming air plants, though the air plants themselves are not very clear in this Florida swamp image, but the overall scene well defines the area. The freshwater's of the Big Cypress Swamp, essential to the health of the neighboring Everglades, support the rich marine estuaries along Florida’s southwest coast. Protecting over 720,000 acres of this vast swamp in this image, Big Cypress National Preserve contains a mixture of tropical and temperate plant communities that are home to a diversity of wildlife, including the elusive Florida panther. An image of a swamp is a wetland  featuring flooding of large areas of land by shallow bodies of water. An image of a swamp generally has a substantial number of hammocks,  or dry-land protrusions, covered by aquatic vegetation, or vegetation that tolerates periodical inundation.

Wetlands are low, flat lands that are covered with water most of the time. Two major wetlands in Florida are The Florida Everglades in South Florida and Okefenokee Swamp bordering Florida and Georgia. Florida's swamps are dynamic wonderlands that display a wide range of ecological diversity. Swamps in these images are wetlands with trees, having saturated soils and standing water for at least part of the year.
